Ticket Drawings
Do you want a special prize? And a chance to have your name called on a microphone? Well every quarter there is a drawing for tickets that sixth graders get to earn. This takes place in the cafeteria, which has a lot of room for fun activities.
Do you like to jump rope? If you do, then you’re in luck. At the sixth-grade ticket drawing there are jump ropes and hollo hopes that you can do if your name is called. At the ticket drawing there are also many prizes like fun toys and things that will most definitely bring a smile to your face!
Now let’s see what other students think of the sixth-grade ticket drawing. Lily Stysley said that “It was really fun to watch people get a prize!” Stella Skane said, “It is a good opportunity to get a prize, you have an equal chance as anyone else.”
But there isn’t just a sixth-grade ticket drawings, there is a school ACT card drawing! In class students can earn ACT cards, these cards are put into a bin near the school library. When a card is put into the bin then the person who put it in has a chance of winning awesome prizes just like in the sixth-grade drawing. So, everyone has a chance to win.
The feeling of having your name called on the microphone is like walking on the red carpet, everyone claps and is very happy for you like what Lily said.
Every student try’s and works hard to win these tickets. Some things that they do is volunteer for something that they don’t usually do, like present a presentation to the class. They also might take a chance to answer a question that they aren’t sure of.
These ticket drawings usually take a period, which gives them forty-five minutes of fun and games! In the sixth-grade drawing all through the forty-five minutes they play fun music! The ticket drawings are very clever, they help students work harder in exchange of that, a fun time to win prizes for the students!
Let’s look at a different perspective, even though the ticket drawing seems very fun it also can lower your confidence. Nathan Kearns said, “The prizes weren’t even good.”
Even if you win forty tickets, it is still not likely that you would get a prize. Stella Skane had about thirty-five tickets and she didn’t get picked once. In conclusion, the ticket drawing doesn’t have very good prizes and most kids don’t even get picked.
Stella Skane said, “That instead of having a huge drawing, they should just get a prize for every ticket we get.” Do you agree or disagree?

Catonsville Middle School started a summer reading project this year. Many did amazing projects but some ask why are we even reading these books and here are the reasons and some recommendations for this coming up summer from CMS students:
Wonder by R.J. Palacio was a big hit by students here and one book that stood out to us the most is Fever by Caurie Walse Anderson. Here are some students thoughts about this year’s summer reading project ‘’It helped us prepare for the beginning of this school year.’’ also ‘’I think this teaches students that it is important to read even while out of school.’’
